Summer squash experiment

Sometimes you just get inspired, and throw something together, and it actually works! It's easier to do with some foods than others, but zucchini in the summertime just cries out to be experimented on..with? about? I don't know.
I mean, how bad can it be, especially when you'll be throwing it into a tortilla with cheese and hot sauce anyway?
This rendition had fresh basil from my herb garden, some garlic, hot peppers, a little mustard and vermouth reduced down. The only thing that could have made it better was maybe some goat cheese and perhaps something crunchy like roasted nuts. Best thing about it was getting creative, and having it come together easily!

One of life's greatest pleasures is

coffee and a scone. I ate a scone last weekend, and it was.... OMG -- goooood! I have had better scones, definitely, but this one was special because I haven't eaten any delicious breads or rolls or anything in about 2 months due to some food allergies I was recently made aware of. Allergies to brewer's yeast, baker's yeast, vanilla and eggs have made my diet a little more limited lately. I am still trying to figure it out. More on this later. In the meantime - put scones BACK ON THE MENU!!!!

Three, it's the magic number

Yes it is! My blog is 3 and this is the 300th post. Wow! Time to reminisce and make some kind of celebratory dessert. Perhaps I will try my hand at some kind of liquer-y summer fruit, or maybe an apple or pear crisp. I've never used phyllo for anything. And figs are in season right now. Maybe I will make that fig/phyllo treat with the recipe I recently got from Greek Class. Hmmmm, a lot to think about. At the very least, s'mores on our upcoming camping trip.

¡Salud!

I was so excited about barbecuing with our friends, and sharing some great carne asada on the hottest day of the year last weekend. So excited that I forgot to take pictures of the final dishes or spread. And it was a feast!
We grilled carne asada, bought freshly-made tortillas in Santa Ana, made Mexican corn on the cob, tried a new recipe for Cilantro and Lime rice (this will become a regular), and served ALL the fixins with plenty of tequila to go around. Our friends brought Mexican Caesar salad with roasted peppers, which was fantastic! This was merely the first of many bbqs this summer. So I will try to remember to take some shots next time. Here are some of the prep work (teasers).
